Case Number: D2025-2879
Complainant: Royal Portrush Golf Club
Represented by: Thorntons Law LLP
A British golf club, Royal Portrush Golf Club, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking in connection with its failed UDRP filing, aimed at securing a transfer of the domain royalportrush.com, which has been the subject of a long-running ownership dispute between the club and the domain name’s registered owner. A three-member panel of the World Intellectual Property Organization handed up the RDNH ruling against the golf club on September 13, 2025.
The panel, lead by Andrew D.S. Lothian, and further composed by members Jane Lambert and Tony Willoughby, noted in its ruling the golf club appeared to attempt to mislead the panel by providing evidence that was the subject of ‘apparent truncation’, meaning crucial exculpatory evidence favoring the respondent was deliberately withheld.
