Niche Industrial Company Dealt Hammer Blow Trying To Steal JTT.com

Case Number: D2022-1456

Complainant: Thorpe Technologies, Inc.

Represented by: Churovich Law, LLC

A small California company that manufactures industrial equipment for customers in the aluminum and forging industry, among others, has been found guilty of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking after trying to take the domain JTT.com from its original registrant using the UDRP process. Thorpe Technologies, which claims to be well known by JTT moniker, and recently filed for trademark protections for a stylized mark bearing the initials JTT, had claimed it had worldwide recognition and common-law trademark rights as early as 1993, while the domain, itself, was registered in 1996. However, a single-member panelist of the World Intellectual Property Organization found the recognition argument hollow, and ultimately rejected the common law trademark claim. A ruling was handed up by panelist W. Scott Blackmer on June 26, 2022.
